  • Surgery update!

So, as I would think that most of you know, I had my long awaited jaw surgery on April Fools day. (Great joke right?)
Anyway, I started off the day, to get my mind off things by going to get my learners permit, and I passed! Only two wrong. After that, we had to report to the hospital at 11 am for pre-op and the procedure was to begin at 12:30. We got there and the nurses had to set me up to an IV (my first) and I actually started to cry when my parents decided to say a pray with me. I don't know why, I guess I got the full impact that wow, I'm actually going to get major surgery today. So I was wheeled out the the operation area with my parents to wait to talk with the anesthesiologist and the doctor and eventually make it back to the OR. The nurses back there explained a couple things to me, nothing that really stuck and then I saw the anesthesiologist, and he was actually pretty amusing. I finally saw my doctor and after that final encounter, we ran into all the people that we need to before the surgery.
Finally (though I'm not sure if this is a bad thing or a good thing) I got wheeled into the OR. The anesthesiologist, trying to keep my mind off of the impending task began asking me about what I was usually called.
"So do you go by Megan?"
"Yes. But I'm pretty widely known as MJ."
    "MJ?"
    "Like Michael Jordan?"
    "Like Mary Jane from Spiderman?"
"However, some of my friends call me FoJ."
    "FoJ?"
"Yeah, it's a really long story."
"So you'd probably be asleep by the time your done telling it?"

At least from my point of view, that's the last thing that I remember before hand.

The first thing that I recall when waking up was that was lying down (obviously) with a big tent-like breathing mask over my face. For some reason I remember that but I don't remember being wheeled up to my recovery room. When I did recall my surroundings there (at about 7) I recall seeing my parents there who gave me a stuffed panda! If you know about some recent obsessions with pandas, you would know how happy I was.

The night in the hospital was rough.

The nurses had to come in to see me about every hour, the most sleep I got in succession was an hour, and don't even get me started on the issue with having to go to the bathroom. You had to call the nurses in and they had to unplug you and since you were so weak, you needed assistance out of bed and back in. AH! The only one thing that I liked was the breathing mask. In my mind, I was pretty set that I was not going to leave the hospital without it. I didn't know how else I would be able to breath.

So the next day, when it came to figuring out when we should leave, it ended up being around 1 pm. I couldn't just go home then could I? Oh no. I had to go over to the doctor's office. The ride over there in itself was torture with all the bumps and sun. It was too much. Getting to the office wasn't much better. First, we had to sit in the waiting room for about 15 minutes or so but then, when we went back, I had to get x-rays taken and for that I had to stand. I was in no mood to be standing at all. I was way too tired. Then when I did finally get to sit down (panda still in hand, never leaving) and wait for the doctor to show up, I started to drift off to sleep! I told you I was tired. I don't know how long I was sitting there, it was just so hard for me to stay awake, but then the doctor finally came in. And when he did, we all marveled at my results. The recently taken x-rays were on the computer screen and the difference from how I was just the day before was astonishing. My teeth actually met!

When we finally got home, it was still a bit difficult for me to relax. The medicine was terrible, breathing was hard and swallowing hurt like hell! (Darn breathing tube that took them 30 minutes to shove through my nose and down my throat.) Sleeping was hard again. I probably woke up almost at least two times every hour and it doesn't help when you have ice packs resting every imaginable place on your face.

The following day was a bit better. I was able to drink some different things besides just water, I got some flowers, and Justin and Tabitha came over. Do you know how hard it is not to be able to talk? Besides all that, I had another restless night, no thanks to my breathing, which is still somewhat of an issue.

Apart from things that happened today, I got flowers from the doctor's and staff which was really sweet and I had a sudden revelation that my gums were being held together by stitches (so that explains the funny feeling up there).

Anywho, I hope this wasn't too boring for you out there who were looking for an update on my progress but I do at least hope you were satisfied with what you wanted to know.

    Till later!
    - MJ

    PS
My mom has been taking pictures throughout the entire experience and she seems to be convinced that if I make it on to American Idol that they can use those for my sob story. Great . . .

  • *singing* New York, New York . . . oops . .

    So, yeah . . .

You all know that I was going to New York today right? Well, here was the schedule of mine this morning:

I got up at 6:00 this morning just like we had planned to do originally.  My dad and I passed by the school that the bus that were going to ride was SUPPOSED to be at 6:45 in the morning. However the bus was not there.  We circled around it a few times, just to make sure that we didn't pass it but we still didn't see it.  So, I called my mom, asking what she thought about it.  She told me to call the mother of the friend I was going with.  So, I did.

"Mrs. N----.  Hi, this is Megan."
    "Hi."
"We just passed by the school and the bus wasn't there."
"Did you guys set your clocks back?"

    ... Oops ...

Yeah, so all in all, I get to sit here at the REAL 6:00 AM and type this up for you guys.  We haven't even left for NYC yet!  (To see Mary Poppins if you didn't know)

Yeah, please pray for my imperfect, mistaking soul . . .

    Love you all!
    . . . Hoping you still love me . . .

    -MJ <3

    PS.
I know Tabitha!  Aren't you suprised?  I didn't update this time because of a guy!  I know, you're just too proud of me for words. XOXOXO

  • Man, I rarely update this page don't I?

Well, I must say that I must have been crazy when I wrote that whole 'Chris' entry of mine.  I don't know what I was thinking!  Where does he get the nerve (after he asks me, "We're a thing right?". Emphasis on thing.) to say that "We're just friends. K?"?  I mean, who frickin' does that!?  Anywho, for those of you who are familiar with my "love" life, I am back on Samson.  To tell the truth, during that entire time, I don't think I stopped thinking about him.  Granted, I thought I could maybe make him jealous, but, oh well.  Yep, I still have a crush on Samson.  Maybe this year he will even ask me to a dance.
And I can just hear The Truth and The Party now: "Oh, please!  Samson will sooo ask you!"
Well, we'll just see about that won't we?

Anywho, I am now sitting here, anticipating school (which starts next week!  Sophmore year here we come!) and playing with my now famous Time Turner.
    . . . .
Yes, I bought a Time Turner.  I still like Harry Potter and I doubt that that's going to change.

Well, as a new tidbit of info, I and a couple of my other friends have started a WizRock band and I am looking forward to our progress.
We'll see if I end up posting any news about it.  You can tune in to see if I update but you know me, that's highly unlikely.

    Love,
     - - MJ
